Content management web design is one of the latest innovations in web design. Its purpose is to simplify the task of managing a website through a user-friendly interface. The majority of web users agree that the concept of content management systems is a great add-on to web design; however, as with most change, there are individuals who don’t share the same enthusiasm with content management web design.
The disapproval comes from both web developers and web owners. To understand their sentiments, here are some of the common reasons why content management web design is not everyone’s favorite choice.

Limited Flexibility with Open Source CMS

Although open sources of content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal and Joomla are available, they don’t always offer enough flexibility to do the job. This means web designers will have to utilize commercial content management systems which can be quite expensive. The additional cost for content management systems can significantly increase the cost for site design and is one of the biggest hurdles web owners have to face.

Extra Cost Without Being Necessary

Because content management systems are a popular choice these days, it often comes in standard web design packages. The initiative may sound good for most web owners. The extra cost for designing a website with CMS can definitely outweigh the benefits; however, not all websites require a content management web design. The purpose for CMS is to ease the task of updating the site’s content; it is just not a necessity that every website requires such a feature. For some people, the addition of CMS is an unnecessary feature that adds to the cost of the design package.

Does Not Support Some of the Other Scripts

Although content management web design delivers the convenience of updating web contents, it can also limit support to other programming scripts. This is one of the issues web developers have to deal with when incorporating content management systems to the web design. Some CMS lacks the capability to support web technologies like JavaScript, Flash, etc.  As a result, the quality of the website can become compromised to allow for content management systems.

Does Require Learning and Usage

Websites designed with content management systems can be updated through an interface that opens up in a browser which is a major transition from HTML coding.  Although CMS boasts a user-friendly interface, using it will still require some learning. Some people who don’t have the time or the patience to study a new system may not find it useful at all and that defeats the ultimate purpose of a content management web design.
Resistance by Web Designers
Perhaps the biggest resistance to content management systems on the part of web designers is the exact reason why it came into existence:   it gives the freedom to web owners to update their own websites. Performing routine site maintenance and updates are ways that web developers generate revenue. Content management web design eliminated the need for web developers to do this simple task and this feature could make web developer obsolete in terms of doing site updates and maintenance.
Ultimately, web developers have and will come up with other new innovations to fill the void left by web owners’ usage of CMS.  So the primary resistance is still with the owners and that is also decreasing as it becomes the desire of more web-savvy owners to take over the updating functions of their own websites.  So it would appear that content management web design is here to stay and both sides of the issue will be happy!
