Afraid to Comment in Facebook? Turn Off Notifications!

In last night’s E-Preneur Seminar “Mastering Sales from Facebook”, I had a client tell me that he doesn’t like posting comments to other people’s or companies wall because he doesn’t like getting 40 emails from other people’s comments. I think that’s a shame because Facebook is all about sharing and participating in a community.

So I sat down and figured out how to turn that off. Follow along as I show how to turn off notifications when other people comment on something you’ve commented on.

Step 1 – Go to your Account Settings in the “Account” tab in the upper right hand corner of Facebook.

Account Settings

Click on the "Account Settings"

Step 2 – Click on the “Notifications” tab.

Facebook Notifications

Click on the Notifications tab.

Step 3 – Scroll down and in the “Wall Comments” section, uncheck the “Comments After me on a Wall story.”

Uncheck Comments after me on a Wall story.

Uncheck Comments after me on a Wall story.

That’s it! No longer will you lay awake at night in the fear of waking up to 100 emails in your inbox just for posting a comment on somebody’s wall! Follow the above steps and you will be cured! Now go out and comment away!

Somehow I favor getting notifications on the posts I comment on facebook. But I see to it that I only comment on posts of my friends. I don’t comment on fan pages where a lot of people from around the globe leaves a comment, too. I think there is a feature where you can unsubscribe to a certain comment… If you know how to do it, please share it to us. I will try to see if its possible as well. Thanks!

One of the reasons why I don’t use Facebook anymore. Most of the stuff that will spam the living daylights out of you is turned on by default, in which case Facebook should have it turned off by default and allow people to turn such features on optionally at their discretion.

To be frank, I also hate getting email notification for other comments but you shared a good Facebook tool. This will really work for me.

I turned this off and still receive notifications – is this because this feature was turned on when i left those particular comments?

I *like* getting these notifications, but for some reason I stopped getting them?
